iTunes isn’t just a music store, its also a media player; you can play songs in it that you didn’t buy there.

    Open iTunes on your computer
On the File menu, click either:
    - Add file to library
    - Add folder to library
    - Import

These should allow you to add your existing files on your computer (there is also an option to burn a CD to your computer, but I suggest using a different program); from your computer you can import into iTunes and transfer to the iPhone

Any music that you have added to your iTunes, that is a normal file (ie: mp3, etc..) can be moved onto your iPhone by adding to the setting you’ve configured in iTunes for music to copy to your iPhone (ie: if setup for all, it will copy all, if setup for a playlist, you must first drag the song to that playlist).
